Vision Loss and Cardiovascular Health

Our October newsletter summarises the findings of a study published in the American Journal of Medicine, linking cardiovascular health to decreased vision loss.

Impaired eye sight can significantly compromise quality of life and becomes increasingly prevalent with increased age. Many eye diseases that cause vision loss, such as age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy, are preventable given early intervention.

The study found a connection between good cardiovascular health and decreased vision loss. The researchers recommended that increased collaboration between optometrists and cardiologists take place in order to increase quality of care.

At Mobile Eye Clinic, we are dedicated to collaboration with our fellow health professionals. This currently includes collaboration with ophthalmologists, GPs, occupational therapists, and cardiologists, when possible.
