Research is clear that the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD) doubles for those who smoke. This is because smoking decreases plasma antioxidants that protect retina cells, contributes to poor circulation in the retina and damages blood supply.

A new study, however, found eCigarettes eliminate many of the above risks, as smoke is no longer inhaled. The downside however, is that nicotine from eCigarettes takes longer to take effect than if smoked. The report concluded that eCigarettes are 95% safer than tobacco cigarettes.

The number 1 strategy for defeating AMD and other eye diseases continues to be regular eye check ups, so remember to book an eye clinic for your facility today, so we can prevent blindness in seniors.
